Each one of the techniques you mentioned is a powerful tool in an animator’s arsenal. There is nothing wrong with studying them together but you may be overwhelmed by learning all the possibilities of each tool at the same time. Even if you study them together you should know the power of each single control! Try showing a change in a character’s thought process using only blinks. Then try doing the same using just eye darts or eye brows.
